A funeral bill has two halves: the funeral director’s own charges, and the third-party costs that are paid to other people (the crematorium, the cemetery, the minister, the newspaper). We show both, separately, on every estimate. These are our prices this year.
1. Our own charges
A simple and direct cremation is £1,395 and includes everything. A traditional funeral starts at £3,450 and includes our professional fees, bringing your person into our care at any hour, an oak-veneer coffin, the hearse, one limousine, and the funeral director and four bearers on the day. Extra limousines, a different coffin, or a longer distance are priced on the estimate.
2. Third-party costs
Locally, a crematorium fee is between £850 and £1,100 depending on the time of day. A new grave in a council cemetery is around £1,900, plus the interment fee. A minister or celebrant charges £200 to £300. A death notice in the local paper is about £120. We pass these on at cost and do not add a margin.
3. Ways to pay
We ask for the third-party costs before the funeral and our own fees within thirty days afterwards. If you are on certain benefits you may be able to claim a Funeral Expenses Payment from the government, and we will help with the form. A pre-paid plan fixes our charges at today’s price for whenever it is needed.
